Who I Am
Cherie is a 2008 graduate from the University of Minnesota with a DVM/MPH. God allowed her to go on several short-term trips with CVM during school. After graduating, she started working at a small animal hospital in Minnesota. One year into practice, she started praying about a long-term opportunity and discovered there was a great need in Gesses, Ethiopia. Through much thought, prayer, and a one month vision trip to Gesses, Cherie found God leading her to Ethiopia to work among the Gumuz people.
Currently, Cherie is in school in Addis Ababa learning the Amharic language. In October, Lord willing, she will be moving to Gesses where she will be the project manager for the Gumuz Education Project. Cherie plans to be involved with the Gumuz women, especially, teaching literacy and basic public health concepts. Through these teachings, she will be praying for opportunities to share the Gospel and the love that Jesus Christ has for them.
Cherie has been seconded to an organization known as SIM (Serving in Mission), and her team in Gesses consists of an SIM family from Canada, the Kruses. The Kruses have spent over 10 years in Ethiopia and almost 2 years in Gesses, exclusively. They are working specifically with men and women's ministries in discipleship training and are also raising their five children.
