Dr. Wayne & Lisa Hassinger
Serving in Haiti
"Rays in the Garden"
Who We Are
Dr. Wayne Hassinger is a large animal veterinarian who has been the owner of a successful large animal ambulatory practice for the last 12 years in rural upstate New York. Lisa has been the practice manager during that time, and prior to Wayne and Lisa having their two children Ethan (8yrs) and Alexis (6yrs), was a horse trainer/riding instructor. In August of 2014 God put a calling on Wayne’s heart to use his skills as a veterinarian overseas. From there he found CVM and went on his first short-term mission trip to the Dominican Republic in November of 2014.
Wayne’s role while serving in Haiti will be to aid ongoing efforts to help educate and empower vet agents (similar to a veterinary version of an EMT), assisting in the establishment of a three year veterinary technician training program, teaching veterinary and animal husbandry courses, sharing the love of Christ, and encouraging God’s faithful as they reflect His light by investing in their neighbors and building their communities. Lisa will continue to be a homeschooling Mom, continue to assist in coordinating vet work, and focus on developing a family gardening, sustainable animal raising, and food preservation ministry. Their project name is Rays in the Garden referring to the light of God and His creation in which we've been placed together to work, and steward, and grow for Him.
Veterinary medicine is one way we can help each other to tend and steward the Garden, meet peoples’ needs, and build relationships for God’s Glory and the good of others.
Their local partner is Organization for Development Against Misery (ODCM). They are a group of 75 community members who work together on livestock, agriculture and human health projects to develop their community. Odilon Estime is the ODCM director, a local Haitian community leader with a heart growing in the desire to share the love of God with all groups in the community and see poverty and despair replaced by cooperation, stewardship, and hope.
