Dr. Ann MacCormac & Shawn Fischer
Serving in Ghana
Who We Are
Ann and Shawn met and married in Baltimore, MD, where Ann took her first veterinary job and Shawn taught in a prep school. Ann has worked as a small animal veterinarian for the past nineteen years. She was introduced to Christian Veterinary Mission (CVM) while in vet school and has travelled with CVM on short-term mission trips. Shawn has a Masters of Fine Arts degree and has worked as an exhibiting and commissioned artist and an educator.
Ann, Shawn and their daughter, Ella, will be serving in Accra, the capital city of Ghana. Ann will teach classes in clinical medicine in the Veterinary Program at the University of Ghana. She will also participate in the student Christian fellowship. In addition to training students in medicine and surgery, she hopes to encourage students to consider their vocation as a way to transform the lives of families in rural and remote areas, where animal health is vitally important for their health and survival. Shawn plans to use his skills as a visual artist and teacher to join with the existing arts program at the University of Ghana. By partnering with the departments of dance and drama he hopes to foster a cultural exchange of Western and African art forms.
